We euphemistically refer to this school term as the "Spring" term. However, given that it covers January, February and March, and this year has...
Aged 2, my dad brought me to the tennis club where he was coaching, and this is where I started hitting some tennis balls. Soon after around age 4 my parents brought me to Halton for my first session and I have been a member ever since. I tried many different sports during my time at school, but nothing ever took me away from playing tennis.
As a junior I played at County level and was coached by many of the coaches that I am now working alongside. When I reached the under 12 age group, I was competing in many National tournaments. I reached the semi-finals of a National Grade 2 event and shortly after that, I was invited to the Grade 1 event at the National Tennis Centre. My highest ranking during this stage was number 9 in the country and with these achievements, I was also invited to participate in a National Training camp.
Unfortunately, shortly after this I had slowly started to lose my enjoyment for competing as much as I once did and started to feel like playing tennis for me was not a hobby anymore and not enjoyable. I made the decision to take a short break from playing tennis. In the end this break ended up being nearly 4 years, from age 13-17.
During this time, I managed to stay connected to tennis. I was assisting various coaches at Halton with junior squads, assisted with match plays, supporting junior County training sessions, and also continued with the occasional individual lessons by Jemima. In hindsight, these activities helped me retain my love for the game, so my break did not remain permanent.
In the summer of 2021, I returned to my own tennis playing at Halton. I re-joined the squads and started competing in tournaments again which has been refreshing and safe to say, I enjoy it. I achieved some good results in tournaments, both 18u and Mens, and also winning some doubles events. I was also invited to join the 18u County Squad this year.
Over the last 4 years, I have already been given a vast array of opportunities for coaching at Halton, working with all ages and abilities, from tots to adults, and I cannot wait to expand my skills even further.
I am extremely excited to start my coaching career at Halton and I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to join the coaching team.
