Tennis for Everyone -- putting skills into practice, whatever your age!

We were delighted once again to enjoy the Everyball Tennis Seniors tournament (ITF Grade 4) with terrific weather and a brilliant atmosphere here at Halton UK.

This year saw the inclusion of new age groups from 35 right up to 75-and-over, and we also saw the inclusion of mixed doubles.

Our very own Mike James retained the men’s 50s singles title, despite nursing a very sore calf. Mike displayed one of our 4R's in abundance, showing great resilience in a 6-4 6-3 win against Everyball's good friend Phil Hill.

Also featured in the roll of honour were David Barnett and Robert Pain, who beat a well-seasoned Canada/GB pairing 6-3 6-0 in the final. David mentioned that he had never felt so relaxed in a final before -- and it certainly showed in his play!

John Farrell and his partner Dave Hewson were runners up in the men’s 45s doubles, and Dharshi Maheswaran and Nila Sari won the women’s 40s doubles.

Hot on the heels of the Seniors, we hosted National Junior tournaments for Under 12s and Under 14s.  Everyball's own Calum Fairey, Joshua Oakley, Millie Day and Amelie Brooks were competing in the Under 14s, and Ethan Thank competed in the under 12s.

All our players competed brilliantly, and we were all pleased to see how proud they were of their performances.

James Morgan, head coach at Everyball, was delighted with both tournaments -- which kept him busy with some long days here at Halton in the sunshine! James said, "It has been a great two weeks of competition. The seniors event was the best we have had yet, and the Under 12s and Under 14s tournaments were simply superb too."

He went on to echo the feelings of all the Everyball coaches: "In years to come, players may not necessarily remember whether they won or lost here -- but we do hope that they remember the way they felt when they were here with us."

And it was lovely to hear this from one of the Senior players who wrote to say, "A huge thank you for a lovely three days of a fantastic tournament: certainly one of my favourite events and you always make your players feel welcomed and looked after.  Thank you. This one is by far the best of them all!"
