This February, the team at Everyball was delighted to hold our very first Secondary School Winter Cup.

Everyball hosted a total of ten teams from Aylesbury High School, Aylesbury Grammar School, Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School and John Colet School. Sir Henry Floyd topped the schools with the number of teams entered, bringing four teams along on the day.

The mini tennis format provided a great level playing field for competition. The ten teams were split into two boxes of five. A notable mention definitely goes to the girls from Aylesbury High School who ended up playing as a team of two -- and playing two matches in every round!

At the end of the round robin stages, Sir Henry Floyd and Aylesbury High topped their respective groups.

After a hotly-contested final, Sir Henry Floyd emerged victorious on the day, with Aylesbury High as very worthy runners up.

James Morgan, Head Coach here at Everyball, was delighted with the new tournament:

"It was terrific to see so many students playing on the day -- and some playing in their first tennis competition ever.

"We believe that competition is such a powerful retention tool for players, and if they feel they are improving and have a chance to play in relevant competition then we should ensure that they stay motivated and want to keep coming back.

"We look forward to the Summer Cup later on in the year where we will use the
yellow ball and full court as we head outdoors."

Harry Mackintosh, from the winning team, had a great time:

"I thoroughly enjoyed competing in the inaugural Secondary School Tennis Championship. It was clear that everyone had fun, from those who play often to those who are new to the game. It was great to be in the winning team and I’m very much looking forward to the Summer Championships. Vamos SHFGS!!"
